Gifts and Dreams

Hey everybody, I hope you're all having a fabulous day!

A while back I read a book called Jungle Pilot by Russell Hitt, a biography of Nate Saint who was a martyred missionary to Ecuador.
"People who do not know the Lord ask why in the world we waste our lives as missionaries. They forget that they too are expending their lives ... and when the bubble has burst, they will have nothing of eternal significance to show for the years they have wasted."—Nate Saint

While I was reading it I started thinking, it seems that God gives people dreams and the gifts/talents needed to fulfill them. When you let go of your own dreams and give God full control in your life He gives you dreams so much bigger than your own, He gives you the gifts that will be needed to accomplish it, and He never leaves you to do it in your own strength. When God is the one that directs your path, gives you your dream and gifts to do something for His glory, it will be something so much more than you could have ever dreamed up and accomplished on your own.

Nate Saint had a mind that easily grasped mechanical things and he was fascinated with aviation. He wanted to join the military and be a pilot during WWII. Because of a childhood disease that popped up again while he was in the military that door was closed to him. His plans and dreams had come crashing down around him and he didn't know where exactly to go from there. He laid his desires down before the Lord and after a while he became part of missionary effort and was sent to help some of their pilots repair their plane. Shortly after that he joined Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF).  He and his wife went to Ecuador as a missionaries, he as a pilot and his wife to support him and keep things running smoothly at their station. Their ministry there was a tremendous blessing to the other missionaries in the jungle. Yes, Nate was eventually killed by some of the natives that he and four other young men were trying to reach, but it was not a vain effort. Later his sister and the wife of one of the other martyrs went to that tribe and many there were won for the Lord. Nate's life left an impact that has lasted long after he was gone, his testimony is inspiring to me and I'm sure it is to many others as well.

God can take the gifts and dreams of a heart fully surrendered to him and do something so much bigger, something so much longer lived and something so much more amazing than what could have ever been possible without Him.

I've seen this in the lives of others and it's fascinating to see what God does through them.
So what are your talents and what dream has God given to you?

P.S. If you haven't read that book I would definitely recommend it! Interesting, easy to read, and inspiring.  :)
